The [House] Health and HumanResources Committee was scheduled to hear HB 486 on Tuesday, May 1?but the hearing was postponed one week. HB 486 will now be heard onMay 8. Additionally, SB 641 is scheduled for a hearing in [Senate]General Welfare, Health and Human Services Committee on Wednesday,May 9.With these two important committee hearings coming up, it isimperative that solid, articulate witnesses testify in support ofthe bills. Therefore, if you are -- or know -- a medical marijuanapatient or a medical professional who has experience with medicalmarijuana patients (or who supports a patient's right to relief),please e-mail Anthony@... right away.In order to be effective, it is important that we be able tocoordinate witness testimony. If you think you can appear next week,please contact us immediately rather than simply showing up. We willalso be able to help you fine-tune your testimony, to ensure thatyour presence has the greatest possible effect.Many of you have already contacted MPP, so thank you in advance foryour support and willingness to help. MPP is the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the United States. Founded in 1995, MPP works to minimize the harm associated with marijuana -- both the consumption of marijuana and the laws that are intended to prohibit its use. MPP believes that the greatest harm associated with marijuana is prison. To this end, MPP focuses on removing criminal penalties for marijuana use, with a particular emphasis on making marijuana medically available to seriously ill people who have the approval of their doctors.
MPP doesn't encourage marijuana use. But our failed marijuana laws cost taxpayers billions of dollars a year, keep police from focusing on real crimes, and fail to keep marijuana away from kids. We believe it's time for a new approach-- taxation and regulation.
